What is IVF?

In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a method where sperm and egg are combined outside the body in glass (vitro) to let sperm fertilize with egg by monitoring and stimulating female ovulatory at the laboratory. After fertilization about 3-5 days, the embryos are then implanted into the walls of the uterus.

Who is IVF suitable for?

  1. A woman whose fallopian tubes are obstructed or destroyed.
  2. A man with sperm problems, such as low sperm count and motility.
  3. A woman who has endometriosis.
  4. A woman whose ovarian hormones disorder – such as Chronic anovulation
  5. A couple with immune system problem
  6. Couple with other unsuccessful artificial insemination experience
  7. Need to receive Egg or Blastocyst Donation
  8. Need to correct Genetic disorder – Embryo Biopsy
  9. Couple with unexplained fertility problems

IVF Procedure

  1. Doctor will give appropriate amount of medication according to an individual need to increase the number of eggs produced in woman.
  2. Doctor will measure the number of follicles and their growth by ultrasound and do blood test to measure level of hormones.
  3. Injection would be done to accelerate eggs to be ready to retrieve.
  4. Egg retrieval would be done after approximately 34-36 hours of injection. In the same time, sperm retrieval would also be done and sent to laboratory to select the strongest and healthiest one.
  5. The collected eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory. Then, fertilized eggs would be observed carefully and taken care until turning to an embryo stage.
  6. The best embryo would be selected and transferred into the walls of the uterus. This procedure is similar to normal pelvic examination.
  7. 12-14 days after Embryo Transfer, blood test would be done to look on hormones level and possibility of pregnancy.

Our Services

–          ICSI : IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection is a procedure of injecting a single sperm cell directly into the cytoplasm of an egg.

–          TESE : Testicular Sperm Extraction is the process of removing a small portion of tissue from the testicle and extracting the few sperm cells for ICSI. (In case of Azoospermia)

–          PGD : Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis is a reproductive technology used along with IVF to detect any abnormality in the chromosomes to help select the best embryo for transfer. The aim is to avoid genetic disease and other risks.

MINC Mini-incubators

A small oven imitates temperature and amount of gases to the natural environment of women’s uterus. The oven provides the most suitable environment for the growth of Embryo.

 Culture Medium

The embryo will grow in fluid called Culture Medium. Culture medium is developed to mimic the composition of oviduct and uterine fluids to closely approximate the natural environment of the developing embryo.

Blastocyst Culture and Implantation

EKI-IVF Fertility and Genetic Center at Ekachai Hospital has world-leading specialists in Blastocyst culture and implantation. This is a technique that let the embryos grow up until the blastocyst stage before transferring to mother’s uterus.

By this method:

–          We can check the best development of the embryos before transferring back for pregnancy.

–          The possibility of pregnancy rate would be increase.

Blastocyst Biopsy

We use technology to feed embryos until Blastocyst stage. Then, cell from the embryo will be taken for genetic diagnosis. This process takes only one day for the result. And, embryos without any genetic disease would be selected for pregnancy.

Per-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

PGD is a process of genetic diagnosis on embryos prior to ET (Embryo Transfer). For this method, 3-5 cells from embryos will be taken to diagnose and analyze to eliminate the one with any genetic diseases (such as Down syndrome, Beta Thalassemia, Cystic Fibrosis, Huntington ’s disease). Therefore, the chance of healthy pregnancy would be increase.

Frozen Embryo Storage

The embryos from your first time retrieval can be kept for the next Embryo Transfer. In this case, it is not necessary to restart from the first step again. However, it depends on the quality of the embryo that could be kept or not.

Who would these techniques benefit?
